As a professional photographer, I’ve seen it all when it comes to wardrobe choices for photo shoots. Your clothing is an investment in your image, and it should reflect your best self while ensuring comfort throughout the session. Here are some crucial tips on what NOT to do when selecting clothes for your next photo shoot:
Avoid Tight-Fitting Button-Down Shirts: Button-down shirts are a classic choice for photo shoots, but be wary of ones that are too snug. They can pull at the buttons, revealing undergarments and creating not only an unflattering look but will make you slef concious thourghout the shoot. Opt for shirts that fit comfortably across the chest and shoulders without straining at the seams.
Mind Your Undergarments: Proper undergarments are the foundation of a great outfit. Choose bras that provide enough support and coverage, especially if you’re wearing thin or sheer fabrics. Seamless options are ideal to avoid visible lines in your photos.
Don’t Ignore Fit: Ill-fitting clothes can be a distraction for you an in your photos. Avoid tops that are too tight, not long enough to cover your mid-section (if you are concious of it) or pants that are too loose. Opt for pieces that flatter your body shape and make you feel confident.
Say No to Wrinkles: Wrinkled clothing can make you appear sloppy in photos. Always steam or iron your outfit before the shoot to ensure a polished look. (bring one with you)
Coordinate Your Colors: Consider the overall color scheme of the shoot location and select outfits that complement it. Coordinate with any props or backdrops to create a cohesive look.
Try Before You Buy: Don’t wait until the day of the shoot to try on your outfit. Take the time to try it on beforehand to ensure it fits well and makes you feel confident. This also gives you the opportunity to make any necessary adjustments or substitutions.
Consider Comfort: While style is important, comfort should not be overlooked. Choose fabrics that allow for movement and breathability, especially if the shoot involves outdoor activities or extended periods of time.
If you don't like the outfit, are not 100% comfortable in it, think that it might be too revealing, need bobby pins to hold it together, feel inwardly that it is too snug or too loose ...DON'T WEAR IT!
Remember, your clothing choices can greatly impact the outcome of your photos. By avoiding these common pitfalls and prioritizing your investment in your wardrobe, you'll be well on your way to looking and feeling your best in front of the camera.
